We Live in a World of Sick Dogs, but It Doesn’t Have to Be This Way
All around us, dogs are living shorter lives, plagued by chronic illnesses, and we’re told this is "normal." But we know it’s not. We’ve seen it firsthand in our own dogs, in the pets of friends and family, and even across the country and world—dogs are suffering from preventable diseases. Why are wild animals like wolves and coyotes thriving, while our beloved pets struggle? The difference is clear: wild animals aren’t exposed to the toxins, chemicals, and procedures that domesticated dogs are subjected to. Our pets may be domesticated, but they still share over 99% of their DNA with wild canines, and their needs remain largely the same.
So, how can we reverse this trend? We start by looking at how dogs thrive naturally. It’s a simple but powerful truth: you cannot create health by introducing toxins and chemicals into the body. Unfortunately, from a young age, dogs are exposed to vaccines, chemical dewormers, and processed kibble—all in the name of “health.” These measures often disrupt their immune systems, leading to lifelong health issues. And when these issues arise, they’re typically treated with even more drugs, creating a cycle that benefits pharmaceutical companies but not our dogs.
Take kibble, for example. Though marketed as “nutritional,” it’s full of fillers and synthetic additives that compromise health. Feeding a species-appropriate raw diet is the only way to provide real, natural nutrition. When dogs eat kibble, they’re nutritionally deprived and overloaded with toxins, which further weakens their bodies.
Then there’s spaying and neutering. We’re told it’s the “responsible” choice, yet spaying and neutering removes essential hormones that affect the entire body. Without these hormones, dogs often end up with thyroid issues, autoimmune disorders, joint problems, and even cancer. Sadly, while responsible pet owners follow this guidance, shelters remain overcrowded because irresponsible owners allow unplanned litters. Spaying and neutering has not solved the issue of unwanted pets; it has simply created new health problems in dogs.
Our mission at High Desert Canine Wellness is to change this narrative. We believe in raising dogs naturally, without vaccines, chemical dewormers, or synthetic flea and tick preventatives. We educate dog owners on how to provide their pets with the best chance at a healthy, vibrant life through raw feeding, holistic care, and natural immune support. This approach is closer to what nature and God intended, supporting natural immunity and allowing the body to heal and thrive.
We know this journey won’t end illness entirely, but we are committed to doing everything we can to break this cycle of poor health. Our goal is to see dogs live longer, healthier lives, free from the chronic ailments that plague so many today. We hope to one day see a world where it’s considered “normal” to have a happy, healthy dog with a full lifespan. At High Desert Canine Wellness, we’re determined to make that vision a reality—one dog at a time.
